Connecting a custom domain to your Google Site is one of the final steps to making your website look fully professional. While Google Sites handles hosting and security automatically, you need to configure your domain’s DNS (Domain Name System) settings so visitors can reach your site via your custom domain.
In this guide, you will learn how to verify domain ownership with a TXT record, point your www subdomain using a CNAME record, and route your root domain using 4 A records.
Before Google allows you to connect a custom domain, you must prove that you own it.
In the Google Sites editor, go to Settings (gear icon) > Custom domains.
Click Start setup and type your domain (e.g., [www.mynewgooglesite.com](https://www.mynewgooglesite.com)).
If your domain is not verified, Google will redirect you to Search Console or the Google Webmaster verification tool.
Select TXT record verification and copy the unique string generated by Google (it usually starts with google-site-verification=...).
Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Simply.com).
Go to DNS Management and add a new record:
Type: TXT
Host / Name: @ (or leave blank depending on your provider)
Value / Content: [Paste your google-site-verification string]
TTL: Automatic or 3600
Note: Verification can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours.
Google Sites requires a CNAME record to route your www subdomain ([www.yourdomain.com](https://www.yourdomain.com)) to Google's servers.
In your domain provider's DNS panel, add or update the following CNAME record:
Type: CNAME
Host / Name: www
Target / Points to: ghs.googlehosted.com
TTL: Automatic or 3600
To ensure that visitors who type yourdomain.com (without www) are correctly directed to your Google Site, you must set up A records.
Are these IP addresses always the same for every Google Site? Yes! Google uses the same four IP addresses for all Google Sites custom domain connections:
216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21
In your DNS manager, add four separate A records: Google Sites A records IP address
Record 1:
Type: A
Host / Name: @
Value / IP: 216.239.32.21
Record 2:
Type: A
Host / Name: @
Value / IP: 216.239.34.21
Record 3:
Type: A
Host / Name: @
Value / IP: 216.239.36.21
Record 4:
Type: A
Host / Name: @
Value / IP: 216.239.38.21
Once you have saved your TXT, CNAME, and 4 A records:
Return to Google Sites.
Complete the custom domain wizard under Settings > Custom domains.
Click Publish at the top right of the editor.
DNS changes typically take 1 to 24 hours to propagate across the internet. During this period, Google will also generate a free SSL certificate (HTTPS) for your domain automatically.
